Hangin' it on the line

There probably isn’t anything more “green”, sexy or sassy then standing outside hanging your clothes out to dry…especially if you’re going o’natural! Hills, an Australian brand that has been line drying for over 50 years, is launching their campaign to spark more Americans to stop using the dryer and start putting their clothes on the line! Yeehaw! Something my gramma did for years but never with as much style as the Hills provides! Line drying with the Hills is like driving a hybrid…they come in all shapes, styles and forms, so there is no excuse. For all Green and Clean Moms regardless of where you live or how big your yard is you have an option to make hanging those pink polka dotted organic undies on the line! From the hefty Rotary do it all maximum drying capacity to the Supa Fold,” I only have a yard or balcony”, mom. Oh, and then there is my favorite Quatro for tiny yards, itsy bitsy spaces or indoor options.

So mamas do it like your gramma, shake those clothes, grab some clothespins and show the neighbor how to bleach your whites with the sunlight! Even the celebs are hanging their clothes and names on the line! Celebrities like Rachel Bilson and Matt Rhys, to name a few are supporting this good cause and helping to reduce carbon emissions, the good old fashion way. Get started today and sign up to put your name on the line and if you want to be a really cool Green and Clean Mom, like me…ask for the hybrid of all clothes dryers this Mother’s Day.

Great idea! I use cloth diapers and while for most of the year I can't dry them outside (they'd be frozen from Chicago wind), we are finally enjoying nice weather. The other day I dried them outside for the first time. And the sun really does bleach out stains. It's great!

These are cool ideas and its unfortunate that due to apartment and condo restrictions many people (myself included) aren't allowed to hang our clothes out to dry. I get around it with a hip high clothes line and two drying racks I use indoors but its not nearly as convenient as a regular clothes line.

Love what you're doing; really dislike the site design--it's awfully difficult to read. Sorry :/

Funny, as I was eating lunch today, I was looking at the deck and thinking that I should start doing that ... but first ask my neighbors to either side if they were ok with it (we back to a conservancy, so they'd be the only ones to possibly see). NO one around here does that, and I wouldn't want to be shunned in my own neighborhood, but if someone asks nicely, can you really say no? How do you start when you live with other people in sight of your lines?

Line-drying is a easy, cheap way to go green, and I lined-dry all my clothes for years and years . . . but . . . I don't any more! Here in the Pacific NW, it's wet about nine months of the year. I've tried hanging clothes indoors only to have them sit in the damp for over a week, grow mildew, and never dry at all.

Also, whenever I dry my clothes outside during the summer, I get EARWIGS in them! (This ties into your next post!) Somehow these disgusting bugs find their way onto towels, underwear, and little baby clothes. It has made me afraid of drying my clothes outside. I mean, I know earwigs won't kill me, but they're still pretty gross. Does anyone know how to prevent this problem?
