Making a green move to wordpress or typepad
In September 2007 I started blogging for fun and as a way to reach out to other moms like me. Blogger for me, at the time, was the best choice because it was free and very easy to use. Anyone can use blogger. I agreed to the terms and didn’t think twice. Now my blog has grown substantially, thanks to The New York Times and my continual marketing. I try hard to write good posts, figure out this blogging world, the marketing tools, and google ranking. Oh and the blogging rules and ethics are worse than moms at the playground! It’s competitive and at times down right confusing. For such a big business the word “blog” is deceiving and doesn’t sound very intelligent. Who came up with this word blog, my son thinks it sounds like bogger!
My blog has essentially become a business and taken on its own life form. I am not going to try to even explain but essentially I am very limited with what I can and cannot do with blogger (host ads on your site if they aren’t ad words). This is frustrating because I have it mastered and the thought of spending time to learn something else is annoying. I scowered the internet for advise, ideas and just what to do and Emomsathome.com summed it up nicely and gave me some solid ideas on blogs and business.

I too am also trying to figure out which one to which too...it is SO confusing...I follow the move!! Not to worry.
Have you checked out BlogHer.com? They might have some great suggestions as well!
First of all, you are great. My boyfriend told me about your site after it was in the NY Times.
I highly recommend getting your own site. It's so easy with the right tools.
I run my own website, which I NEVER thought I was capable of. I used Godaddy to buy the domain name and for my hosting. Their customer service has been amazing. I even called them on Christmas Day (I work too, too much!).
As for the website building part... do you have a mac? We have a mac and I used iweb and I would never, ever, trade it for the world. You can drop and drag photos, add text, change colors, etc., all as if you were in a word document. NO CODES. It does all of the encoding for you and you can change the templates however you like. And it looks good.
Then you just click one button to export your files to a folder and upload them to Godaddy and everything magically appears. It really was that simple.
If you have questions, feel free to ask me. I've had a great experience with GoDaddy and iweb. You can check out the site and see if you like the finished product: The Leash We Can Do!
If you don't have a mac, I have to tell you, it's worth the switch. It makes owning and running your own site accessible. That way you can be a blogger, not a web tech student. It's really saved me so much time and money and allowed me to focus on the things I want to, not the codes and knowledge required to share those things online.
