Massive ice chunk collapses in Antarctica

Imagine a chunk of ice, seven times the size of Manhattan collapsing and breaking off of a glacier. My husband and I honeymooned in Alaska and we took a glacier cruise where we saw part of a glacier break off and it was so loud I jumped. It was probably only the size of one Manhattan apartment and it was loud! This enormous ice chunk that has broken off, 15 years sooner then scientists expected is what I would call a “loud” wake up call. A report by, CNN , mentions how it’s natural for ice to break off but not of this size, however it is being coming more common due to global warming. In 1995 and 2002 there were more dramatic collapses but nonetheless, a reminder to all of us to that global warming is real. CNN has a great video and satellite pictures of this breaking news and unfortunately something we will see more of. Wondering how we you will be impacted? How about rising sea levels and climate changes, all of which have consequences for us whether we are near the artic or not. Keep making greener, healthier, more natural choices and doing your part to walk a little lighter on our planet.

Are you serious? OMFG, the world is coming to an END! Geeze lady, did you ever happen to stop and think that this has been going on for millions of years WITHOUT man's involvement?
Of course, I'm sure this won't get posted because it would cast doubt upon your good sense, right? Before you jump on the bandwagon, why not do some research of your own. If nothing else, use a bit of common sense. Yes, I know, it's hard to come by these days.
You and alarmist Al Bore would make a good pair...

Yay! I'm all for global warming. If the ice shelves melt away, that will open up global trade routes and bring down the costs of international trade. Longer growing seasons and more arable land will increase the world's food supply. It can't get here fast enough!
Joe and Mr.or Mrs. Anonymous,
Thanks for commenting. I have indeed done my research and have watched several documentaries on both sides of the fence, read hundreds of articles and books combined. Please do not insult my intelligence because I am extremly educated and when it comes to common sense it seems to me that you happen to be the one who might need a dose or two.
There is no doubt in my mind that this has been happening for millions of years. Global warming is a fact but what is debated amongst scientists, happens to be the rate at which global warming is occuring. My post brings light to the fact that this happened faster than expected because of global warming and it's a reminder it is indeed happening faster because of our choices. If you choose to not believe this, that if your choice. I'm not going to convince you but do not be rude.
Feel free to have your opinion but I am not proud of what we are leaving our children and our children's children. Teaching respect for the environment should be something we all do, whether you believe in global warming or not.
As for opening up international trade routes and longer growing seasons, perhaps more research is needed there. Longer growing seasons will be ended by floods and droughts...climate change isn't always for the better.
Feel free to post and have a respectful dialogue with taste and maturity but insults and name calling will not be posted on my blog. Just because a screen is between two people does not mean that there cannot be respect.
Things are going to be the way they were a long time ago:
Tropical Paradise at the Poles
Maybe we'll have some new vacation spots!
Do I believe global warming is happening? Yes. Do I believe man is the sole cause? No. Do I believe man is a major contributor to Global Warming? No. Do I believe man is a minor contributor? Yes.
The fact is we take a limited amount of data and extrapolate what we think will happen. The only extensive data we have is temperature data - we don't have data which shows what the weather was like in previous warm periods in our history. So, the idea that global warming can cause droughts and floods is based on extrapolation of data models. These data models also can't predict our weather for next week, so I can't put that much faith in them. You can get data models to show whatever you want - it all depends on the quality of the data and the quality of the model.
Areas that were once lush green environments are now deserts, and vice versa. Climate change is a natural phenomenon that will occur regardless of what we do.
I believe we should be good stewards of our environment. We should be "green" because it's the right thing to do, not because it's mandated by law. The free market will take care of this for us - as attitudes change, demand for greener technologies will make it more economical for companies to accomodate the market.
I don't mind the green movement whatsoever - I think it's the right thing to do for our future, but I don't believe it should be government mandated.
Green and Clean Mom,
Don't let the bullies get to you. The fact is, they're selfish and terrified. They're terrified that they will have to change their lives. They're terrified that their decisions will hurt the entire world. Their only recourse is to bully others into their state of mind so that they can say "It wasn't just me!" when the worst happens.
Keep up the good work. There are an uncountable number of selfish people out there, so it is an uphill battle.
Green & Clean Mom,
I'm glad to see that someone still cares about our environment..these (excuse me) idiots are out of their minds.. it sucks that we humans cant take care of the land we live on.. these people are ignorant and uneducated about the facts that the government are hiding from us.
Keep it up, your not the only one!

Wow. Hard to believe there are still people who don't take this seriously. This is...quite literally...huge. Thanks for keeping the metaphorical spotlight on!
