TOXIC BREW
Watch any commercial on television about cleaning and it has to do with moms sanitizing, killing 99% of all germs and being a good mom. Most of them make me feel like I'm either not being a good mom because my home isn't clean enough or that I could have more free time if I used their product because it is faster and more effective. Marketing is really playing on the fears of us obsessed germ freak moms. If us clean freak moms who love our children to pieces but don't like the illness that comes with germs would stop listening to the commercials and ads and do some research we'd be even better mommies to our babies. I'm one of those moms so I can say all of this!!! So maybe this will help you if your a mom like me, I did some research for you!!!
CBC News (a Canadian Network) had a report called toxic brew that addresses this cleaning epidemic. It's an informative piece to watch that talks about why traditional household cleaners are dangerous for our health. What I liked most about this report is that professionals are speaking and giving solid information that we should all be made aware of. Why 20/20 or 48 hours hasn't reported on this I am not sure. Click here for the link to read the story and watch the video. You can even research for yourself on this site to learn more about "trade secrets", why cleaners can be more dangerous to children and what a material safety data sheet is. The story tells a few compelling stories about moms just trying to do the right thing but all along they were hurting their children.
Healthy Child Healthy World, a non-profit organization, has established a program called the Blue Butterfly program. This program gives five simple steps for families to create a safe, clean, green and healthy environment for children. It is supported by Sheryl Crow, Seventh Generation, Shaklee, Whole Foods, Wee Generations and many other great partners. A wonderful resource for those looking for more information on how to live safer and healthier and why. An organization that truly cares about children.
